Those IT Guys Never Have Time

Have you heard such comments from others in your company? Is your IT department considered a bunker, well hidden and inaccessible for strangers? Should you be concerned about it? Yes!

IT Exists for the Users

... not the other way around. You are there to keep the business running. In order to do that, you need to stay in touch with the users and attend to their needs. If they tell you that you don't have time for them, take it seriously and react.

Show That You Care

Your users will notice that. Even if you are not able to meet all their needs, your attitude will make it up by a large factor. Always find the time to listen to the users. Take note of their issues and deal with them yourself or pass them on to a team member who can do that better or sooner.

Take Ownership

Don't just pass the case to someone and forget about it. Make sure it gets done! If you pass the case on to another person or team, follow up regularly until completion.

These are simple tips that will help you get more appreciation from the business users. What other things would you consider helpful in building relationship between business users and IT?
